The views on Amtrak’s Coast Starlight are beautiful. It’s true, the views are outstanding, particularly in Southern California. The train hugs the coastline for some 350 miles, so we saw plenty of sand, surf and cliffs, as well as local families out enjoying a Saturday afternoon on the beach.

Start your review of Amtrak Coast Starlight. My little baby kitten Starlight would love this train, I very much hope that she gets to see it someday soon. This is an absolutely amazing passenger train that will take you from San Diego to San Luis Obispo. I didn’t even know that it was such a long journey, but with all the stops, it takes awhile.

It stops in nearby Emeryville, CA, from which you can take a connecting bus to San Francisco. You can book a trip directly to San Francisco that includes the bus.

On the Coast Starlight it might buy you more room and the opportunity for a quieter traveling experience but none of that is a guarantee. If you’re traveling during off-peak season I would recommend a Coach seat and try to get a good seat in the Lounge Car.
